And that's why I am sending this out as a BLAST !
Dr Khalsa,
My name is April Dengler and I just saw your article on Apoquel and how it is know to cause cancer in dogs. In 2013 I took my dog whom I'd been searching for allergy relief for years, to a veterinarian in Quakertown PA that does clinical trials for all kinds of diseases in dogs. For me, i trusted this vet to guide me in the right direction for my dog. I work in the medical field as a trauma nurse so I'm not new to health care. When this vet recommended Apoquel which I wasn't able to get for another week when it was due to be released I was excited to hear that there may be hope for my dog. I specifically asked the vet multiple times before giving my dog this medication how the clinical trials turned out. Side effects, long term use? Adverse effects? Etc. but was reassured over and over again that this drug is safe and is NOT know to cause any harmful effects to dogs. I started giving my dog this medication and before you knew it I found
a mass on my dogs abdomen. I took my dog to the vet as soon as I noticed the mass and she was sent in for survey the next day to have the mass removed and biopsied. Needless to say I found out she had adenocarcinoma of the mammary glands. Long story short, I went through surgery and chemo with my dog and in the end the cancer spread to her lungs and I had to euthanize my dog. I was devastated!!!!! After a few weeks I contacted the vet back who ran the clinical trial at this place only to be told that this medication is known to cause abdominal tumors. ANGER is the only word to describe how I feel. I've been looking into Apoquel and how it's destroying people's lives! People's pets are like there children and dogs are suffering from cancer because of this drug. I wanted to talk to you and get your perspective as a medical professional. I strongly believe this drug should be taken off the market. I don't know how this pharmaceutical
company is getting away with essentially killing dogs. I would love to hear back from you. Please reach out to me when you have some free time!
Sincerely,
April Dengler

I would love to publish in my newsletter what you just said. When cases of cancer come to me and the dogs have been on Atopica (cyclosporine) or Apoquel the oncologist records that are sent to me always note that the oncologist got them right off the Apoquel or Atopica: of course it's too late for that to make any difference at all.
I think the majority of veterinarians have no idea how this stuff works. They believe the drug companies.
Here's the rub. I had several clients who worked for pharmaceutical companies in the testing department. It was the primary reason they were anti drugs and came to me for holistic for their pets. This is what happens... the pharmaceutical company does a very quiet study and notes when problems occur. As an example, liver problems 12 weeks into the study. Or tumors start to form 16 weeks in. Whatever. After they know all this they are now ready for their formal public study and they make sure the study ends before the problems show up. If liver problems occur at 12 weeks they do a 10 week study and publish the results. So the veterinarians and doctors are not totally at fault. That said, they could do some cold hard research like I did and not believe everything the pharmaceutical companies tell them. The pharmaceutical companies know what Apoquel does as they advertise Cytopoint as a kinanse inhibitor that only affects
onekinase. What they don't say is that affecting on kinase affects hundreds and then thousands of kinanses as they all intercommunicate.
With your permission I would like to publish our dialogue in my newsletter ( you can get on it www.doctordeva.com) but the subscriber starts at the beginning and it would take 3 years for a beginner to get this one. Maybe I will send it out as an e-mail blast AS THIS IS SO VERY IMPORTANT FOR PET OWNERS TO KNOW.
Kindest regards, Dr. Khalsa
