Tchaikovsky (Tchai) is a 9-year-old male Bouvier des Flandres. He was born in New Zealand and traveled back to the States with me at the age of one. He has struggled most of his life with allergic conditions including skin itchiness and inflammation, ear infections, yeasty conditions and odor, and chronic gastric upsets resulting in behavioral issues including reactivity, depression, and obsessive licking and biting at his skin and coat.

Tchai’s health conditions began with a mandatory kennel cough vaccination to enable him to attend doggie day care following which he developed kennel cough symptoms. He was then treated by the local vet with several weeks of antibiotics and I was told that the vaccination and kennel cough-like symptoms had absolutely no correlation; the two were totally unrelated. Although I disagreed, I didn’t have the knowledge basis at the time to understand the cause and effect.

Over the course of the next nine years, Tchai was treated with the arsenal of conventional drugs that our various vets prescribed – Cephalexin, Osurnia, Prednisolone, Miconosol, Cefpodoxime, Apoquel, plus many more. The diagnoses of ear infections, skin inflammation leading to skin infections, eye allergies, cystitis, parasites continued to increase in frequency, severity and longevity. Clearly, these treatments were not working and were in fact causing things to get worse. 

So, I began to research alternatives and found that SO many people were having very similar issues with their dogs. 

I tried supplements and herbal remedies advertised on social media.

I began reading books on natural pet care and alternative methods of treatment. 

That’s when I found Dr. Deva Khalsa and I felt a glimmer of hope! 

I researched her credentials and information online and immediately ordered and read her book, The Allergic Pet. I found her recommendations to be extensively researched, fact-based, and realistic! Working remotely via email and phone, we discussed Tchai’s condition and why he wasn’t responding to any of the conventional treatments. We discussed her recommendations and shortly thereafter I received my Allergy Elimination kit in the mail. 

As the treatments progressed, I noticed Tchai’s skin and coat were no longer musty smelling. He wasn’t itching, scratching and biting at himself obsessively. His ears were clean and no longer full of black, stinky goop. His stomach stopped grumbling all the time and his occasional vomiting stopped. His personality changed from lethargic to happy and exuberant. He became more interactive with me and our other dog. The treatments were working! Finally, after all this time, Tchai is comfortable, happy, and healthy; and that makes me happy!

Tchai suffered needlessly over these years as a direct result of drugs prescribed by veterinarians who lacked the knowledge of friendlier, gentler and more effective alternatives. Through no fault of their own, their mainstream education is tainted by pharmaceutical companies and their propaganda through saturating the media with the latest and greatest drugs, and by funding “controlled” research. The conventional pharmaceutical methods of treating our animals are a disservice to the love and companionship they bring into our lives. It is my hope that Tchai’s story will ignite a spark of hope and belief that will be the catalyst for other people to seek and choose health for their animals.
